Harmony texturizes the melody by adding intervals to evoke a certain mood or emotional effect. There are specific rules of harmonization, or the application of intervals on the melody, and in most styles of music they lend an air of authenticity when followed.
Healing music, in many ways, is living its own set of rules that even float if the guidance calls for it.
Your own intuition and feel are the main arbitrators in deciding which harmony/interval to apply. From my own experience here are some techniques that are effective:
- Applying a drone of the root and fifth at an octave down provides a powerful foundation that grounds the listener in their body and subsequently, to the Earth. Energetically this pushes the listener into a greater healing receptivity as they return to their body more, even despite resistance. The physics of sound and intention often override the patients patterns. The melody then punctuates the drone to call forth certain frequencies.
- Using a fifth above the melody in parallel, where each note simply follows the melody is a jump start to balancing the earth and sky, the human and the divine. The regal quality of the fifth calls forth deep inner resources and courage and will to address the existing condition. Melodies using the fifth are simple and slow moving. Texturizing with additional instruments in unison on both parts stirs the cells even more.
- Likewise, allowing the fourth to parallel the melody invites the listener to harken back to past lives in traditional native cultures to access courage and deep earth connections that augment personal power, strength, and courage. The interval stirs the heart to massage out the frequencies of loss and evoke a confidence to do battle with the obstacles. Again, due to its unfamiliar sound, the use of simple and slow moving melodies is more desirable…though anything is possible for the moment at hand.
- Punctuating the melody with fourths and fifths at different places within the composition allows for the access and reaching out to the divine and then returning in the fourth with the awareness and guidance to apply to the physical self.
- Melodies utilizing a textural complimentary instrument an octave above the melody pulls for the unification of heaven and earth, balancing the listener on the earth and stretching into the guidance from etheric realms. It calls for the balancing polarities to realign the inner chaos. Adding the fourth or fifth can be impactful at the right intuited moment.
- Triad or three tone harmonies carry additional vibratory influence. The comfort of the major or minor third provides a safe place for allowing change within. Harmonizing with the melodic octave below grounds the listener to the Source and foundation, bringing one back to the body to integrate the issues and release the toxic energy. The third above lifts while the third below contracts and pulls the vibration more deeply into the cause for eventual release.
- Additional triad of the root third above, sixth above is a mood alterer that invites the listener to move from the status quo. It is a light and evocative call for change, like stepping out into the sun and feeling warmth. This kind of harmony can function on moving melodies that are perky. Pedaling, or holding at a pitch repeatedly, of the third or sixth can create inner movement that speaks to certain systems within the body. Experiment and follow guidance for specific application for the patient.
- The classic root, third, fifth harmony, kind of country or bluegrass or pop, is powerful and familiar. It is sweet and balancing and invites a pleasant state. It is inspirational and calls the cells into alignment with inner purpose. Varying the location of the third and fifth above or below the melody creates moods and textures that can further influence the listener.
- Tension intervals like the seventh and the second can be interspersed to help transition moods. They are highly useful in creating movement and breaking up patterns and energetic frequencies. Alternating between dissonance and resolution on regular intervals can be a rhythmic approach to coaxing a shift in the forms of toxic energies. Inserting occasional, pedaled, or droning additional intervals between the melody and the seventh can further impact the listener to choose balance over compromise and familiar patterns.
- Your imagination and your trust of guidance are the main factors influencing your harmonic choices when creating music for healing. As you work with your melody and harmony and drones you will find what works best for you. Your personal frequency and inner balance state will also influence your creations as the music that moves through is serving multiple purposes. We constantly heal or refine or maintain our own energy bodies when we create healing music. Likewise, many who have similar historical issues as you will be drawn to your vibration for healing. This is no accident but a beautiful synchronicity that shows an additional display of the Law of Attraction.
