the client from patterns and mistrust. It launches a passion that spawns action born on wings of letting go. It unifies the chakras and sends one on his way aligned with the energy bodies of  light and sound. Have an arsenal of rhythms and music of celebration and war. Let it inspire and energize and cleanse both you and your client. Please...Get a djembe drum, a talking drum , and an assortment of rattles to stock your alchemist’s healing chest.

The blues idiom was given birth in Africa through the experience of those dispossessed and brought to to America. The genre birthed primarily in the fields of the South as spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and coded direction songs. The 12 bar progression was the foundation upon which rock and roll and jazz took footing. The blues is a visceral and guttural way to process pain, to shout out the unexpressed, to howl at the moon. For someone in pain or grief there is nothing better than the blues turned up real loud. The sound healer will know when the blues is a God sent remedy for a blocked second chakra...

Native American
The quarter tone pulse of the Native drum calls the listener to the Earth. The dances and songs are about connection and remaining in harmony with the earth and sky and all the creatures. For North Americans the Native pulse runs through the veins and calls us home to the Earth and to our wide open connection and power. The plains drum and the flute are haunting and potent reminders of our inner heritage. The chants of the Native Americans are spirited call and answers sung in high voices that strain to pull down the Great Spirit to unite with the pulsing feet upon the Grandmother. Use this music to ground a wayward soul, to inspire one to take action, to reopen relationships with nature and the animals, and to walk proud along the good red road of I AM. A well prepared sound alchemist has pedestal drums and flutes and plains drums and a mother drum along with an assortment of wooden flutes of varying keys.

Latin America
Rhythm and movement, based on the clave of 3+2 beats, permeates the widespread infectious beats of Latin cultures. It is almost impossible to stay still and not dance. The infusion of drums of all kinds, the congas, the bongos, the timbales coupled with guitar, flute, brass, and a host of percussion gives the Latin music its rolling power. Salsa music is an immediate root to crown chakra balance. The rumba, the cha cha, the Tango, and the meringue cause hips to sway in no time. For the sound healer a healthy dose of Latin music can turn any negative state around. Use it especially to work past emotional issues, weakened power centers and blocked throats. Andean music with the pan flutes and harps and guitars opens up hearts and vision centers with its rolling rhythms and strings.

As you can see there is an almost infinite palette of music available for the Sound Alchemist to apply to any situation. As we move forward in learning the art of alchemy with sound you will begin to see how a prescribed piece of music can make a significant difference in a client’s condition. Coupled with specific tone work and chakra cleansing, the music provides a soundtrack for health. Thus it is advisable that you begin to catalog your music  and fill in the holes where the genre is lacking. I have amassed a resource list with suggestions for each style. A powerful thing to do is to have the music  available to make a “mix tape” for your client. As a one time medicinal resource you can bypass karmic law...or simply suggest a list of songs for them to download on iTunes or any MP3 source on the Internet.

Take the time to listen to the samples provided under each style to see how it effects you. Make note of music that troubles you and listen to it more to move through the energetic resistance. Additionally, move and dance and sing yourself to clear your energy blockages. The path of music through human history is a beautiful one. And for the conscious Sound Alchemist, it is a treasure box of medicinal applications. Enjoy the journey...now, dance!
