I Once Had a Gig
C. April 25, 2020
Mark Stanton Welch
Key F (a waltz)
F /E /D C
Oh there once was a time when the world was so fine
Bb C F C
I had gigs all laid out through the years
F /E /D /C
Then a bug came along and it silenced my song
Bb C
As the gigs they just all disappeared
Bb C F Dm
Now I’m sitting at home doing scales on guitar
Bb C
There’s a future that nobody knows
F /E /D /C
Oh I once had a gig a most wonderful gig
Bb C F C
But it’s gone and that’s how it goes
All the restaurants are empty Bar Mitzvah’s are froze
The weddings are all put on hold
And the bars they are shuttered the parties postponed
And birthdays are simply a no
And I’m sitting here building up my repertoire
For the day when I’ll gig once again
Oh, I once had a gig, a most wonderful gig
It’s gone like the dust in the wind
Bb C F Bb C F
Even those crap gigs look rosy Right now I’d do a concert from my car
Bb C F Dm
The music now pours from those cheap speaker phones
Gm C F C F…
Those days on the road seem so far a way …la la…
So I’ve changed up the house put a cloth on the couch
As a backdrop for live streaming tunes
I’ve learned about Zoom better apps must come soon
Hard to sing with no one in the room
But it’s what we’ve all got we singers of song
A new way will soon come along
So, I’ll just dream of those gigs while I sing to my phone
In these times all my gigs are stay home
I’m singing alone…gigging from home….into the phone…the donations have grown
F /E /D C
Oh there once was a time when the world was so fine
Bb C F
I had gigs all laid out through the years
