Since all is vibration in this Cosmos it follows that all is music. Life is a song. You are a song. Everything is a song of particular and unique beauty. Collectively we orchestrate this moment of living providing the perfect soundtrack that accompanies our every action.

One of the profound Cosmic gifts is music and its personal application to each of us. We resonate with that which we are in harmony with. That which we are in dissonance with is often useful to assist in clearing vibrational debris stored from the unexpressed/unprocessed moments of living….so in this sense there is no bad music. Every kind of music can be useful in raising and/or clearing our vibration because that is the way sound works. (We shall look at this a bit).

We develop preferences based on multiple factors, mostly personal choice. Those preferences deliver the frequencies we require for as long as we need them. Then, likely our interests and preferences shift to something else, be it a genre of music or an artist or a song. Likely you have had a song that keeps recycling itself through your brain for as long as it does. Information and messages abound…as we shall see.

You are made of sound, organized sound. A process called cymatics demonstrates how sound pitches create form when sand or salt is placed on a metal tray and sound pitches are played into the plate. Each pitch delivers a specific arrangement of the particles, a new form. You can witness the particles reforming as you move between pitches. This is such important news! Sound forms you. It impacts you. And, it can rearrange you for better or worse.

Every organ, system, and even cells have frequencies of wholeness and balance. When they are at the frequency of their design then you are in a state of health. Moments of living felt but left unexpressed, energy swallowed, will impact and diminish the rate of vibration, the frequency, of the physical. You are designed to store based on emotion and theme in the chakras and meridians of the energetic anatomy. The thematic storage makes it easier to clear the debris. If ignored the energetic will lower vibration until it impacts the physical tissue, cells, organs, and function. As a finely tuned being it is imperative that you stay in harmony and resonance with your specific frequencies of wholeness. When you do not then there are consequences.

From this perspective everything you do would be life affirming, higher vibrational, loving, compassionate, respectful, joyful. But, honestly, that is not the world that we are presented with, put into, forced to embrace. This incongruence is where the challenges begin. Your frequencies are forced by tradition, pressure for normalcy, family beliefs and patterns passed down, cultural beliefs and actions, institutions that require specifics to fit in, etc. to align with the existing common paradigm which, quite frankly, is based on what I call the doctrine of limitation. Your well being is not served here…

What does this have to do with music, you might ask? A lot! There is a generational process that occurs as part of the Earth/humanity journey that involves each generation finding its autonomy. Tradition has encouraged rebellion of a variety of ways to jettison the “evils” of the parents. Too often the current generation creates forms that represent their frequency…and often this is their music. It is cliché that parents do not get the children’s music. That is the point.

Music allows for independence, personal separation and preference, the moving of the emotional, the expression of ideas, rebellious or otherwise, making a stand, providing a common unifier during a time that is particularly challenging, creates community, feels good, amplifies and clears the personal debris…yes…and it also solidifies beliefs that lead to actions that lead to impasses and separation/closed hearts. There is and always has been, a middle ground if one is interested (we shall look at this).

Let’s look at music and sound from a higher, esoteric perspective that actually is scientific and measurable , to some degree. As a long time musician, songwrite, and sound/vibrational healer I have looked deeply from many perspectives into what makes a song have impact. There are common elements that are worthy of exploring a bit.

A song is a personal expression of the writer. It can be infused with the beliefs, experiences, and lessons of that writer. It can be an inspired experience filled with guidance from Celestial realms. No matter the content and subject it is infused with certain common elements that power the impact of the creation:

  1. The musical key of the song.
    The key aligns the song with the chakras, thus impacting significantly the viscera and the thematic content of that chakra.
  2. The mode of the song
    A song in a major key is expansive and opening. It contains power and an invitation to move outward. A minor key song pulls one in for reflection and inner work.
  3. The melody
    Pitch intervals and their flowing relationship propel the melody through the chakra system and can be purposefully designed to impact certain areas in the body with consistent results.  A memorable melody is a personal thing. Unusual intervals can influence the flow of the song on purpose. These intervals are culture based. Certain intervals used in other cultures will be a challenge for the Western ear and vice versa. Each interval has a message and an impact upon the viscera, the emotions,  and the thinking. Here are a few pulled from my course designed for musicians to learn how to create music that heals: (Information based on the C scale)
    Fifth
    Empowering, centering, regal, sturdiness, comfort, completeness, pulls the listener up and out. Useful in assisting the manifestation of potential or intention. Useful for invoking creativity and movement. The place where Heaven and Earth meet. It allows one to have a foot in both worlds, though leaning toward the spiritual. Common in Gregorian Chant.. Transports the listener between realms. Awaken feelings of the new being birthed. Lifts depression; balances earth and spirit; antibacterial, antiviral, and immune enhancement; balances heart, pituitary gland and releases opiate receptor sites; balances sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system

Fourth
Awakens and announces something new. Resonates the heart  and evokes feelings of serenity, clarity, openness, and light. Used in Native American and Pagan chants. Balance our relationship with Earth and the Divine Mother. Reveals one self as a spiritual being and allows being aware of self in spiritual domains. One can see into both realms through this interval. Brings us back to reality; stabilizes hyper, obsessive, and or manic thought processes; balances temporal bones and TMJ release; grounding for thoughts.

Major Third
Sweet, gladdening, charming, comfortable, friendly, hopeful.  It is simple and uncluttered and blends well. It awakens compatibility. The threshold between major and minor keys, between self awareness and self-surrender. A beautiful interval for exit or entry into the inner world. Motivating; helps focus on goal; helps get things done; balances liver; stimulates digestion; improves sexual drive; balances respiratory diaphragm.

  1. Harmony
    This is the pairing of notes to give the song color or specific harmonious or dissonant feel. Information on the intervals is applied here as well. Music styles have typical harmony structure.
  2. Rhythm
    The pulse and the timing of the creation to give the song the desired feel. The rhythm impacts the cellular vibration. Certain rhythms like the “we will rock you beat” can interrupt the rhythm of the heart beat. The rhythm is a powerful component that can help to focus the listeners, even putting them into a altered state. Dance music has a certain beats per minute just as other styles. Shamanic rhythms can put the drummer/listener into a deep trance , a place from which to do dimensional journeying. Some rhythms make you move, some create chaos, some create rest…
  3. Instrumentation
    Every instrument has a character, a timbre, an place of impact in the body:
    Violin Resemble human voice as so many upper harmonics are present; full range of emotional expression; impacts the heart to the crown chakras; string orchestra reaches the entire human organism;

Cello Impacts belly, solar plexus, heart, and throat; very emotional

Harp Calms nervous system, producing deep relaxation; opens mental field through the harmonics/overtones from the large number of freely vibrating strings;carries consciousness upward; rings and echoes as strings continue to vibrate and resonate

Guitar The perfect accompaniment instrument for the voice. It can be played in a variety of ways (picked, strummed, finger picked, harmonically) and set in a variety of tunings that allow for very healing drones and fifths; touches from belly to crown, with particular impact in the plexus;

Tambura Indian instrument of four strings which creates a drone of octaves and a fifth; many harmonics produced; calming and reassuring in an earth element way; good for vocalizing over;perfect for mantra and chant that stays in one key.

Sitar Indian melodic instrument that is evocative and harmonically rich. Many sympathetic strings resonate with the plucked tones; strongly airy; spiritual; pulls into higher realms

Ukelele Hawaiian four string guitar like instrument; very good for mellow accompaniment and rhythmic strumming; works well with vocals;

Piano Wide range; holding down the sustain pedal and playing elicits multiple overtones; very watery but also earthy and fiery, depending on your style; very dynamic; can “prepare” the piano strings with various materials to create unique textures and sounds;

  1. Style
    Some people like rock, some like pop. Others like world music while others like techno, or rap, or opera, or jazz, or punk, or…on and on. Every style has a flavor that speaks to the individual. Style unifies groups and creates a common community gathering opportunities. Some examples are:
    Rock and Roll Classic rebellion music that poised generation against generation. It is music of power and accessed freedom. Also addresses life themes, particularly relationship. Guitar based…most potent in key of E. Because of the wide variety of feels it is useful to house a statement or healing vision

Folk This acoustic oriented style gives voice to common issues that reflect the masses. It is a powerful vehicle and style through which to write for a cause, for a purpose, for change. One person and a guitar standing against the system. Keys of G (Throat), A (Vision), D (emotion and passion) and E (action) are very useful

Latin This style is about passion and movement. It is emotion expressed. It invites one to be in their body, in the feet and in the hips. It loosens up resistance to surrendering and letting go. It invites playfulness, sensuality, passion, the senses, and activates fire. Keys of D (passion and sensuality and life’s moments), E (moving out in an unfamiliar way with faith to do that which is before you), and F (letting Love frequencies free to salve the moment)

  1. Lyric
    This is the icing on the cake. It is the message, the story, the point of the song. And here is where it can get sticky. The message, if it is personal, will contain the energetics of the writer at the moment of creation The lyric will contain experience and perspectives that may resonate with you…or not. The lyric, if you resonate, will likely roll around in your head over and over. This is actually a programming. The message gets reinforced over and over and pulls you into alignment. If the message reinforces a limited perspective then you have planted that. If it is of higher frequency then you have planted that. You might wake up to it in your head indicating that it is infiltrating the subconscious, for better or not so much. The point here is to monitor what you allow into your deep self. If the lyric is not life affirming then it will seed attraction of like experience for you…Cosmic Law here. Some writers, especially already successful will purposely write songs with lower frequency messages that demean life, or a person, or a gender, or a culture…please monitor your choices here, no matter how much the beat pulls you in, or the melody grabs you…

Music impacts you vibrationally. It changes you by raising or lowering your vibration. That alchemy is some of the power of music. Since music as vibrating sound, is such an integral part of human life, your life, some awareness is useful here:

  1. Be conscious of your musical choices. Pay attention to how you feel listening to them and how you feel afterwards. Notice where you feel them in your body. Notice your thinking and what shows up in your life afterwards.
  2. Be conscious of repeating blindly lyrics out loud that will lower your vibration. On one hand, enjoy the singing as that is powerful and healthy. On the other hand, if the lyric is of lower vibration, counter it when you are done singing with something affirmative to yourself.
  3. Listen to a variety of styles just to see what they do to your body, mind, emotions, and spirit. You may find some new favorites for the time being.
  4. Pay attention to the messages you get from the music. Nothing is haphazard in the conscious life. Messages come in for you in many ways, including music. Notice what you were thinking, experiencing before this song came on. Notice what you want to listen to. What is the greater message of what you are hearing? Is it inviting you to open up a door to some repressed experiences so you can clear them? If so, dance and sing it out. Is it pointing you in some new direction, helping you with problem solving, reminding you of a time of your life to go back to, for enjoyment or clearing…
  5. If the lyric is low frequency yet you like the song, play with just making the sound of the melody with out the words. La la works as does humming or any sound…
  6. Pay attention to social pressure and fitting in around musical styles, songs, choices. You may not actually like what everyone else does. Find something to do when the song is playing or mouth the words. Make choices that empower you and affirm life.
  7. Turn your life into sound. Use your voice often to orchestrate your moments. Play with your voice like you did as a child/infant. Sounding is a powerful and effective energetic cleanser of old held energetic baggage. When you feel something in your body, tune into it, and give it sound until you feel a change in it.
  8. GO back to songs you grew up with, songs that you loved, songs that elevated you. Make a playlist of them and, in your own time, go back to them to help you clear energy and find the balance.
  9. Turn your intentions into music. Make statements and turn them into repetitive chant like songs that you can use to reprogram limited thinking.
  10. Find some mantras and chants and use them. They are purposefully created for higher frequency support and clearing the old ways of thinking and doing.
  11. Listen to and sing intentional songs like the ones I create. There are a growing number of artists who write and record life affirming, positive songs. If you have to, listen to them when you are alone to maintain your frequency.
  12. Enjoy music of all kinds. Remember where it comes from, the life of the one who wrote it. Celebrate their creating, their willingness to gift you this song. Be conscious…be conscious and serve your vibration by choosing music that elevates outward and inward.
  13. Get a drum and make some rattles and use them daily to clear your energy field.
  14. Be conscious of using music as your emotional tool. Sure it is effective, but also learn about emotions and how to identify them, support them, and clear them. They are a gift. Let the music stir the pot, for sure…and then do some work away from the music to explore what has come up. Why not?
  15. Learn to become sensitive to the music of nature. Take nature walks to experience the nuances and the interplay of the natural world, the sound of the animals and birds, the sound of the wind, the leaves, the rain…this kind of sound is often combined of many frequencies and functions like a gong, washing away energetic debris attached to your auric field.
  16. Follow this link and listen to some songs of mine, reflecting on all the pieces that go into making each one.
